Créé par Michael Mauldin et Bob Davis, Université de Carnegie Mellon, Pittsburgh, PA
Juin 1995 : CMGI-Ventures rachète les droits de Lycos à l'Université
1996 : Entrée en bourse. Intégration de la recherche multimédia (son et vidéo) (1). Lycos transforme son interface en portail (2)
1998 : Lycos acquiert notamment l'hébergeur de pages personnelles Tripod ainsi que Wired Digital Inc.'s. (dont le moteur HotBot search engine, Wired News et HotWired news). Premières pub TV avec le Labrador Lycos va chercher !
1999 : Lycos est avec Yahoo! l'un des 2 sites web mondiaux les plus visités.
2000 : Fusion avec l'espagnol Terra Networks, filiale de Telefónica S.A. (3)
2004 : Rachat de Lycos par le sud-coréen Daum.

The value of a university education will become higher if it is limited to the top students rather than to all. Right now, we know, if you graduate and breathe, some college will take your money and that's exactly why I bought my thesis here without any qualms of conscience.
